Dr. Craig Niederberger

Dr. Craig Niederberger is Clarence C. Saelhof Professor and Head of the Department of Urology in the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and holds a joint appointment as Professor in the Department of Bioengineering in the College of Engineering.  He is Co-Editor in Chief of Fertility and Sterility and a section editor for the Journal of Urology.  He is a primary editor of the fourth edition of Infertility in the Male and An Introduction to Male Reproductive Medicine.  He served as general program chair for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine's annual meeting in Atlanta in 2009 and has served as president of the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction within the American Urological Association and as president of the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology within the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. 

Dr. Niederberger received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He did his residency in surgery at Michael Reese Hospital, and his residency in urology at Michael Reese Hospital and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He also did a fellowship in Andrology at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston Texas. He is a Board Certified Urologist. Dr. Niederberger was President of the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction from 2004-2005. Also, he is President for 2005-2006 of the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology.

Dr. Niederberger specializes in the field of male infertility and erectile dysfunction. Dr. Niederberger has been in the forefront of reproductive surgery and technology. He offers the latest medical and surgical procedures in the diagnosis and treatment of male fertility and erectile dysfunction.

Dr. Niederberger also treats patients for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), common in men. Many men are able to take simple medications, and some require the traditional surgical procedure known as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). In addition to the traditional procedure, Dr. Niederberger performs the minimally invasive laser coagulation procedure for BPH.

Dr. Niederberger has been with the University of Illinois at Chicago since 1993.
